Kadena Air Base is an essential part of Americaās military presence in the Pacific since before the end of World War II. Kadena is home to the United States Air Forceās largest combat wingāthe 18th Wingāand associated units. Team Kadena includes nearly 18,000 Americans and more than 4,000 Japanese employees and contractors. The baseās runways have hosted operations ranging from the F-86 Sabre of the Korean conflict and the legendary SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, to todayās contingent of fighters, tankers, cargo, reconnaissance and rescue aircraft. In addition, more than 650 arrivals and departures move passengers and cargo through Kadena every month.
